It's not what it sounds like. It's my kids.
In the car, I'm greatly appreciated as soon as I turn on the radio. I can be riding with my kids for 6 hours, and they entertain themselves in the back seat. As soon as I turn on the radio, they have 40 questions each. Here's how it goes:
"Hey Mom, can you turn on the music, please?"
Click.
"Hey Mom, blah blah blah?"
"Mom, blah blah blah."
"Mama, garble garble garble!" (That's Gabe.)
Click off.
"Answer," "Answer," "Answer."
"Hey Mom, can you turn on the radio?"
Click on.
"Mom, blab blab."....
Click off.
"Kids, do you want the radio on, or do you want to talk? Because I can't hear you with the radio on."
"We want the radio!"
Click on.
"HEY MOM!"
Here's where I am completely unappreciated:
This morning, the tv was off, the kids were on the computer. So, I sat down to play the piano. They come running in with requests. The Little Mermaid won. So, I'm playing "Part of Your World," and they ask me to please sing, too. This, in itself, is a cue that things aren't going to end well since I sound nothing like Ariel. Okay, though, I sing. About two phrases into the song, I hear the tv click on. Another couple phrases and I hear the volume turn up. I can take a hint. I stopped playing and started blogging.

That is funny... well, maybe not, but it is... well, you know.. :)
I wish I could play the piano for my family.. what a great talent you have. I bet they enjoy your singing.. their attention span is just eensie weensie ;)
Hilarious!! I also wish I could play the piano.
Alas the only keys I have any talent at hitting reside on a keyboard...
I love it! It's the same at our house--we must be in the same "minimal attention span" boat. My solution? I have started turning on a Disney Princess Songs tape we got a garage sale for 50 cents. They think it's hilarious when I belt it with Ariel when she sings, "Ask them my questions and get some answers!"
Man I havent been on here in too long- Im really sorry about all the struggling thats been going on and that Delana has left-LOSER!- thats right! Although I know we are both happy for her... Im coming to see you tomorrow...I want to hear whats been going on with you and the meds, you havent seemed yourself lately but I thought it was just because of Delana moving..hang in there!
We got a similar response singing "Part of Your World" to Miriam while Sarah was in the car. I don't know if Miriam liked it or not, but Sarah about lost her mind.
A couple of my kids hated it when I would sing to them as babies. Also my kids seem to desperately need me only when I am making an important phone call.
Jen, I agree that they're just little (with short attention spans) and they'll grow to appreciate you as the coolest mom ever. This post made me think about our occasional Sunday afternoons down in the practice rooms of Taylor hall, singing Tori Amos and Indigo Girls. Gosh, I love you! xoxJess
i love it--and that happens to me all the time in the car!
That is a funny blog! At least you can entertain them with the piano :)
How are yall?
