It's my mom's birthday (I'd tell you her age, but you'd be shocked. She's either to young to have that many kids or looks too great to be that age.) The title is the nickname her mom called her when she was little - Mary Alice, Minnie Malice.
I'd just like to say that I'm so grateful that I'm her daughter. That is something to be proud of. She is very very brave. She fearlessly lives her beliefs. She laughs and laughs. She calls it how she sees it. She can say she is sorry. She is absolutely truthful at all times. The reason I immediately believe anything my mom says is because she never lies. In fact, I was married before I even considered disagreeing with one of her opinions! Since I mostly agree, though, I don't have to concern myself with debating it with her ;)
I really like my mom's company. I remember once as a teenager when we were arguing (as usual for me then), she said, "It may come as a surprise to you, but moms don't have to like their children. Moms love their children, but they don't necessarily like them. And I sincerely like you." A bunch of hooey I thought at the time. But, she was right (of course). I choose her for my guest list every time. Every party is 10 times more fun if she is there. I sincerely like her.
I feel very complimented when people realize I'm her daughter. I feel like I just rose a step or two in their eyes. When I know someone is my mom's friend, I feel a little inclined to make them my friend, too. That's a big deal for me, by the way, because I really hate making friends.
So, Mom, since you undercover read the blogs, I would like to say again that I love you. Love love love. I sandwich you. I can see so many ways that the hardships and questions in my life are provided for by the Lord giving you to me as my mother. What would I do without you to understand me, understand parenting, understand mental illness, understand the gospel? You make no bones about how hard it is, and you make it clear that it is worth it all, every little part of it. Thank you thank you. I love you.
