My nephew, Harris, has spina bifida, and I'm his habilitation aide. He's seven. He comes over M-Th, and we do his homework and work on fine motor skills and play. (I have no special qualifications for this; anyone can get this job. Which is pretty scary. Remind me sometime to tell you about his first aide Shanice.)
Ok, so I'm very proud of myself because today I wrote him a book that uses only his sight words (see definition below)! If my scanner worked I'd post a picture. Anyway, I feel like Dr. Seuss!
Sight Words: A list of, like, 50 words that kindergarteners are supposed to learn to recognize on sight. It's really hard, and I can't believe they are having that in kindergarten. The school system in Texas totally sucks. I hate the TAKS test. And I don't even have a kid in public school yet.
