There is a distinct lack of good parenting going on.

I'm basically writing this post because I'm sick of looking at the last one.

I got to sub as chorister in Primary today. It is SO the place I wish I could be! Granted, I'm not in there for the weekly stressers, but still. I am so happy to be in there.

My entire family slept from 2:30 to 6:30 this afternoon. I woke up in the dark to Gabe crying in his room. The rest of the family trickled down shortly thereafter. We have had so many late nights and early starts over the past week. So, the kids are all jazzed up, and I want to lounge around and not be bothered. The usual activities we would shuffle them off to aren't really available due to incredibly lazy parents. I'll explain:
  • It's the Sabbath, so they can't use the computer. Obviously, I can. And am.
  • It's the Sabbath, so they can't watch tv. So Andy is watching it.
  • Food is always a good distraction, but all the dishes are dirty and neither Andy nor I want to wash them.
  • Playing in the living room is interfering with Andy watching tv.
  • They love playing in the bath, but that would require either me or Andy to get up and go in the bathroom. Ain't gonna happen.
I just told them to go upstairs since now all the lights are on. It was an extreme effort for me to haul my sorry self up there to turn them on. Man, this is where a nanny would be extremely handy. The Mary Poppins kind who would "mold our young breed" as Mrs. Banks puts it. They'd be off tidying the nursery and learning all sorts of life lessons while we, as parents, went about without one clue as to what they were up to. Glorious.

I'd forgotten that the kids have new Primary classes next week. The girls were all excited about it after church today. It happens too quickly. (That might be vaguely connected to shuffling them off with Mary Poppins and having no clue about their lives.)

Hey that sounds like our Lazy Sunday! I've been reading Mansfield Park, Brian was searching for motorcycles on the internet. Naomi and Gwen spent the day throwing toys all over the living room. Over and over again. We asked them to clean them up several times and then 10 minutes later, dump the box of cars and then throw all the stuffed animals all over. I think we ate mostly cocoa puffs throughout the day. I did do dinner though and just now Brian did the dishes, but the girls go to sleep soon so does that really count? There was a lot of hitting today! The girls hitting each other that is.

We all slept today, too. I guess it was the thing to do! Then my boys left to go to Bishop's, so they didn't even get dinner. I'm such a good mom. I guess they can fill up on leftover wedding cake at the Bishop's!

I don't need a nanny - my kids are big enough to take care of themselves. I would like a personal chef, though. I really hate the night after night after night grind of cooking dinner. Hate it with a passion! So a chef would be nice.

If being a good mom is judged by how well and consistently my kids are fed dinner, I am going to flunk. Seriously.

Most nights I can't even be bothered to cook food for myself. I'd rather scrounge around then drag out pots and pans and do some actual cooking.

Cooking, bah! I really, really hate doing it.

(I did make dinner tonight, at least. Breakfast for dinner! Yum!)

Okay, Jen, you'll love this... Em asked to have a friend over this afternoon just to hang out and visit (I said sure, since they were just gonna visit), but James was like "uh, it's Sunday, remember!" I kinda blew it off cuz he hasn't been feeling well and he was in bed taking a nap anyway! THEN.... what do we do this evening??? We go to Ben and Amy's and have dinner and play a game with them... Hello??? What makes us any better? Why is it ok for us to go do that when Em can't have a friend come over and sit and visit??? Crazy parents! We always send mixed signals. Now, Aaron and Daniel want to watch a "Sunday" movie and sadly the definition of "Sunday" movie is up to me since I have to sit through it...

My poor kiddos...

Jen, I love your honesty. Everyone feels that way only you admit it.
I think more than anything else I would like a maid. I hate cleaning so much. It seems like such a waist of time. As soon as you finish cleaning it lasts about 5 minutes and then everything is trashed again.
Can't wait to see you. I hope you don't get any psychos calling you.
