Charlotte is done being sick. Oh she has the occasional cough and the residual bad attitude of a recently sick kid. What's up with that? She gives me a very challenging look - trying to stare me down - when I'm asking her to do something. Well, the queen - that's me, not Claire - has ruled: every time Charlotte disrespects Claire in this particular manner that she has, she will give Claire one of her (Charlotte's) toys. For keeps. There was weeping and wailing. She doesn't know how to gnash her teeth, but once she figures it out, she'll do it with gusto.
So now with Gabe sick, and me fearing the contagion, I stayed up all night doing laundry and Lysoling the house. I am being literal about staying up all night. There I was, folding clothes, when the sun came up. It wasn't like I was forcing myself awake - I really wanted that laundry done. Oh, and I found the underwear.
I am also about to get my first ever flu shot. I think I've had the flu maybe once or twice total. But if I get it after/while my kids have it, I don't think I'll remain intact. I'm already wound pretty tight what with little sleep, lots of worry, and the onset of PMS. I'm telling you, I can function at a high level when required, but I turn into Mean Mom when I do it.

Charlotte's Particular Manner of Disrespecting Claire
Charlotte's big disrespecting issue with Claire is that she basically asserts her will over Claire, ignoring little Claire's protests, squealing, crying, etc. The straw that broke the camel's back tonight was Charlotte was grabbing at Claire's clothes box (yes box, not dresser) and smirking and saying, "I'm just gonna look at something!" Claire, who was trying to take clothes out of the box at the time, asked her, then told her, then pleaded with her to stop. Charlotte, all the while just smirking, was manipulating the sitch to get her way. And I'm pretty sure she didn't really care about looking at the box. She was just making a power play. So, apply that to looking at the cereal box, watching tv, playing on the computer, brushing teeth....
Functioning at a High Level
That means, I do all those household jobs that normally don't get done around here. Laundry, dishes, scrubbing stuff, sweeping stuff, shopping, cooking full meals, etc. So, yeah, the house runs smoothly, but I am tense and annoyed at the drop of a hat. Don't touch it! Put it back! Go play upstairs! Low level functioning consists of doing those things when absolutely necessary with no intention of maintenance.
What Came Out of My Dryer
I included the dollar as a size reference (like in crime scene photographs). I ate that whole giant sized Hershey bar covered in peanut butter. I did not share.

I hope you don't get sick! I know about those high function situations. And I hate when stuff goes to crap over being sick. It takes forever - years maybe - to get back to functioning order or even close to a normal order. At least if you do get sick everything will start out clean and organized.
I, too, have recently found oversized confetti in my dryer! Have these girls been sneaking out to clubs without us?
that sounds delicious. (the chocolate peanut butter thing not the giant confetti. ) and i hope you don't get sick. thats the worst.
OOOOhhhh, Yummy FHE snack! Lately I've been finding chapstick in my dryer which is no bueno since it usually melts, ick!!! I need to get better at checking Miss Em's pockets! I hope you don't get sick... the mom is not allowed to get sick, right ;) There was one time when our Dr. gave the whole family Tamiflu when only one of the kids had the flu.. he said it would help the rest of us keep from getting the virus!?!? I do remember it being an expensive day at the pharmacy, though.
I hope you don't get sick. Ryan is down with something and unfortunatenly I know that means I will get it since we breathe the same air. Something to look forward to! Love the dryer photo! I happily don't have anyone seceretly 'clubbing' over here!
That giant sized confetti is from Faith's birthday party. It was the dumbest thing I ever bought---I'm still finding it everywhere!
I really hope that you don't get sick. Every time, and I mean EVERY time, that Jen gets sick, I get it. No matter how hard I try to stay away from her and not eat/drink near her, I still get it. It sucks.
I know exactly what charlotte is doing. We watch home videos of us kids when we were little and I was the EXACT same way. I think it is an older sibling thing. ;)
Stay strong and keep that lysol near by!
I hope Gabe is the last of your family to get sick. Jeffrey was home sick yesterday, but I think it's easier to have a sick 17-year-old!
Note to self: Never buy giant size confetti.
Also? Now I want a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (I don't want to have to put the peanut butter and chocolate together).
Charlotte is hilarious. I know it isn't funny to you. We totally used to do those things to each other s kids. I really hope you don't get sick. The only thing worse than having sick kids is being sick yourself and having a bunch of kids who are feeling better and have a ton of energy and are getting into all sorts of trouble. I will pray for you that you don't get it.

My hubby is a drug dealer by trade. Ok, he is actually in Bio Tech sales and calls on pediatricians! One of his drugs is FluMist. It is the nasal spray alternative to the shot. On my husband's behalf, I highly recommend the FluMist. It starts to be effective more quickly than the shot. The shot can take around seven days to become effective in your body. FluMist begins within hours Also, FluMist lasts the entire flu season, while the shot is only effective for around three months. Hence if you get the shot in October you are only covered through say January. FluMist covers you for something like 6 or 8 months! (disclaimer: I will have to verify this info with Tom as he is the man with all of the information.) Having said that, I too have had my entire family treated with TamiFlu (the drug that shortens the duration of the flu) when only one of the kids had the flu. It kept the rest of us from getting it. The Tami Flu worked. You might be able to make a phone call to your doctor and explain the situation to the nurse and your doc may call some tamiflu in for you. When it comes to the flu, time is of the essence. It must be treated with tamiflu w/in like 48 hours to be effective in shortening the duration. TamiFlu is an antiViral med. Okay, now you can think I am wordy or a genius...whichever is fine by me! Hang tough girl!
Les (not Lez), you are in fact a genius. He's on TamiFlu, and he got it within 24 hours, so that's encouraging. Thanks for the FluMist info!
I just love reading your blog, you make me laugh (gnashing of teeth thing)....hope you've avoided the flu.
